SOUL food: nourish your body optimally

Nutrition is important for your health. How do you optimally nourish your body? A reminder that you can use here is to eat 'SOUL' food. SOUL is the abbreviation for the terms Seasonal, Organic, Unprocessed and Local. This is not only better for your overall health, it is also better for the environment and therefore Mother Earth.

Seasonal

Eat seasonally as much as possible. Our body requires different nutrition in the autumn than in the summer. In the fall, for example, people like to eat hot oatmeal breakfasts, soups and stews. In the summer there is a greater need for smoothies and salads. The seasonal vegetables, fruit and herbs complement these dishes nicely. In addition, seasonal products are also of better quality, are cheaper and have more flavor because they didn't have to be imported from the other side of the world.

Organic

Organic food is in many cases healthier (and tastier!). Research shows that more vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and fiber are present in organically grown products, thanks to the natural way of growing and cultivating. No pesticides have been used in the cultivation of organic fruit and vegetables. This is not only good for your health, but also for the farmers and employees who grow and distribute fruit and vegetables.

Unprocessed

Eat whole foods as much as possible. By processed food is meant: food that is no longer in its natural state, but that has been processed by people. Processed food is treated with chemical processes, which means that almost every processed product contains artificial substances or refined ingredients. Almost all processed foods therefore contain too much sugar, salt and fat. When you do your groceries, try to buy products that are in their natural state and avoid processed products in packages with more than five ingredients!

Local

Buy your fruit and vegetables locally, so your food doesn't have to travel long. Due to a shorter process between production and consumption, your food is fresher and safer! In addition, you also help to reduce CO2 emissions, as food is good for one third of all transport around the world. When you eat seasonally, you don't need a large greenhouse with artificial light in which to grow the products. You also support the local entrepreneurs and the economy, who are having a hard time at the moment!
